There are substitues and lesser quality polymers out there, but it only makes sense and saves you money to slide your ride on the best. Don't get stuck with a substitue, make sure it's UMHW.

Since polymer was introduced, we have tried many different ways to attach it to the bottom of our boats. We have found our stainless steel, self tapping Phillips head screws to be the best. STEEL FLEX EPOXY RESIN & HARDENER
A great way to treat your aluminum or fiberglass bottom. Not quite as slick as polymer, but not as expensive either. Used for years in the airboat industry for friction reduction and abrasion protection. Once you put it on, don’t change your mind because it ain’t coming off.
